Watermelon Basil Green Smoothie

Sometimes less is more. So it happens in this case.

Take watermelon. A king of the fruit empire. Always to be eaten on its own, it doesn’t need any introduction.

Take basil. A royal of the herb dynasty. A hint of its powerful flavour will awaken all your senses.

Bring them together and you’ve got yourself a summer, youth elixir.

The first and foremost benefit of watermelons is related to their high water content. At over 90% water, you will benefit greatly from it during summer months when dehydration is more likely to occur. Sometimes it can be quite challenging to eat in the summer and that’s when mono eating and watermelons come into the picture. I often find myself eating half or an entire watermelon in one sitting and that should be my entire dinner or lunch. It’s refreshing, it’s cooling, it’s hydrating. aids digestion, allows the toxins to flush away and promotes healthy, elastic skin. And it tastes great! What more could you wish for?

Blend it together with the seeds and most of the white rind, since that’s where the most nutritional value is concentrated. If the blender you’re using won’t break the seeds, you may sieve them in the end.

When it comes to eating watermelon and food combining, make sure you’re having it on its own. Due to its high water content, eating it after a food or with more starchy, sugary fruits will end up in fermentation, producing gas or bloating.

Ingredients:

-1/4 watermelon

-4 leaves basil

How to:

Add all to a blender with seeds and blend until the seeds are crushed. Use a few ice cubes for a chilling effect.

Enjoy!
