Probably the best Green Smoothie in the world

As you may know I am enjoying my favourite month of the year – July – at home, in Romania. I love being here and I am excited to present my Raw Foods 101 course over here. Tomorrow I have the first class in Brasov, and just before I return to London there will be the second one in Bucharest.

Even though I love being at home because of the people I have around, I don’t have a fixed place to stay since my flat is empty and I cruise around my friends and relatives. Which is great. However, I miss my green smoothies and morning routines. Water, tonic, smoothie, yoga, meditation. I can still do these, but when hopping places is not the same.

Since I don’t spend much time at home I rarely buy anything to have in house. Today I happened to have some avocados and bananas left over in my bag and I had just bought some sprouts so, all of a sudden I had smoothie ingredients. My superfood travel bag contained spirulina, maca, cacao, vitamins and alkaline drops. I had a few other ingredients in preparation for the class so I got on blending.

I’ve lost any hope in my poor old blender from home, that went busted many times, but guess what? Any blender is better than no blender. You can quote me on that. Because it’s so true! After a few days off smoothies it felt like oxygen having this extremely tasty blend. Add a fresh summer breeze and a view to die for and this becomes the best smoothie in the world.

It’s also very practical when traveling. You can always buy a banana and an avocado, skip the tahini and bring your small, travel ziplock bags with your super foods of choice. If you don’t have access to a blender it won’t hurt asking the hotel or bars/restaurants you’re visiting to add those to a smoothie for you. They all have blenders for ice crushing and mixed drinks.

Spirulina is essential for me when traveling as it’s rich in protein, iron and minerals, aiding detoxification. Even if you’re enjoying the local food and other bits and bobs, at least you know you’ve got your basis covered. It’s really that practical and simple. And I’ll tell you a secret, you won’t even taste it in here!

Ingredients:

1 banana
1/2 avocado
1 tsp spirulina
1 tsp maca
1 spoon goji
1 handful sprouts
1 spoon tahini
1 cup water

How to:
Add all to a blender and blend until smooth. This will be the mother of all creaminess because it has both the avocado and banana. Yum! Enjoy!
