Autumn Green Smoothie

As we head into a new season (at least a calendar one, depending on where you live) our bodies do an amazing job to help us cope with the change. We should truly respect it and give all the help and care we can.

As the saying goes “Love yourself enough to look after your health”, or something along those lines, we should look at small hacks we could incorporate into a routine to kick start our organism. Even a little bit of help and support towards your body can sometimes go a long way.

That’s why this autumn we focus on the small ways you can improve your day to day energy and support your immune system. This comes in the form of different superfoods, ingredients and seasonal clues we get from nature.

And if it’s Monday, it’s green smoothie time!  Today, the focus is on sprouts, those amazing little greens striving to live and grow, thus being packed with nutrition for survival. I love using them in smoothies, salads, dressings and yogurt.

There plenty of benefits in using sprouts but no one tells it better than the pioneers of sprouting in the healing –  the Hippocrates institute and the information found on their website is often linked to the Sproutman aka Steve Meyerowitz.

Here’s what a sprout has to offer you, according to “Sprouts The Miracle Food” by Steve Meyerowitz:
  • The greatest enzyme activity is from germination up to 7 days and is 100 times greater than the enzyme content of fruits or vegetables which helps to replenish our own body’s reserve of enzymes.
  • Its carbohydrates become easier to assimilate as the starches are changed to simple sugars.
  • Its fats are changed to fatty acids which are an easily digested soluble compound.
  • Its complex protein is converted into simple amino acids, which essentially means that it is “predigested”.
  • Vitamin production is increased three to twelve times more.
  • Minerals are chelated, a natural state where they are chemically bonded to amino acids and easily assimilated by the body.
  • It has delicate cell walls so it can release nourishment easily.
  • It contains photochemical, which are plant compounds that protect against disease.
  • It contains highly active antioxidants that prevent DNA destruction and the effects of aging.
  • It contains both increased fiber (up to 300%) and water.

Are you ready to blend now?

Here’s what you need:

-1 apple
-1 pear, ripe
-1/2 avocado
-1 handful sprouts
-1 slice ginger
-1/2 teaspoon spirulina(optional)
-1 teaspoon maca(optional)
-1 teaspoon bee pollen (optional)
-1 cup water

How to:
Chop the fruits and blend together with all ingredients until you reach a creamy consistency. Decorate with sprouts, goji and cacao nibs for a nicer touch and something to crunch on (this will make you chew your smoothie more, resulting in better digestion and assimilation)

Enjoy!

To your thriving health,
Denisa xx
